Peruvian Paso Horse BloodlinesLibro de Lineas Sanguineas del Caballo PeruanoChasquee aquí para sitio en el españolby Paula Harrington |
Vol. I, available on CD in August 2006, contains 1200 imported stallions and mares, and their ancestors in Peru--about 3000 total entries. There are over 250 pages of text and more than 500 photos, most in color. Entries are alphabetically arranged for easy use. Profiles of each horse contain, where known, registration numbers, sire and dam, color, years of birth and death, breeder, owners, selected achievements, Peruvian offspring with descendants in the U.S., and many interesting facts and observations. It is the perfect companion to the U.S. studbooks, furnishing the reader with pedigree information to trace each horse to its roots in Peru. In using this reference, the owner/breeder will be able to research how their horses have descended from their ancestors through the generations. There is also a chart with prefixes and suffixes of the breeders referred to in the book, along with a list of their ranches, haciendas, and general locations. There is also a fascinating chapter on color genetics. Vol. II, available in 2007, will focus on domestic bloodlines in the U.S. and Canada. The format is different from Vol. I, having many descent charts, pedigrees, and profiles of the key sires and dams. It is profusely illustrated with over 500 selected photos so far. There is a chapter on the elements of the gait with a detailed examination of gait vs. pisos, and conformation vs. function. Another chapter includes theories, and facts on the historical evolution of Iberian breeds and how they relate to the development of the Peruvian Horse. In addition, there is a chapter discussing breeding systems, inbreeding, "outcrossing" within the breed, north vs. south, and developing a breeding plan. The author has been researching the Peruvian Horse for close to 40 years in preparing this long awaited reference. It has been a labor of love and devotion. Many breeders, owners and afficionados have been interviewed and provided valuable information and research materials for this book. Among them are Joan Gladwin, Rick and Sunny Daniels, Manuel Mazzi Casas, Dante Mazzi, Raul Risso, Paddy Korb Warner, Mary Donald, Juan Manuel Rizo Patron, Barbara Windom, Angie Schmidt, Debbie Pye, Juan Pardo Vargas, Eusebio Rodriguez Baca, Jose Antonio Onrubia Romero, Juan Garayar, Raul del Solar, Felipe Thordike B, Cathy Yaskivich, Chuy Franco, Marion Smith, Mimi Busk Downey, Bobbie Culpepper, Earle and Mildred Ewoldt, Guillermo and Graciela Romero of Peruvian Tack, and many others.
